Vimana (The Collapse)

Crank this to 8.8 of 11

Released: 2018

Genre: Grindcore, Death Metal, Mathcore

Sounds Like: Farmhouse Killings, Pig Destroyer, Carcass

Distinct, refreshing and fucking heavy. Vimana hailing from Denver and Seattle unleash their debut EP entitled The Collapse. This EP pushes the heavy meter to great lengths but maintains pristine clarity and contrast. Vimana features members of Cephalic Carnage, Vale of Pnath, Swashbuckle and Rainbowdragoneyes. Ultimately its tough to pin the precise genre, but the quintet primarily blend math and speed metal with grindcore overtones. The fretwork is incredibly fast but moving in all kinds of directions as the math metal cross-tempos germinate making for a very entertaining listen. The brooding vocals mesh impeccably with the variety on this EP. We look forward to their full-length apparently in the works.

Track Listing:

1. Recent Complacency -1:54

2. Destroy Industry- 5:17

3. The Plague of Man 3:28

4. Fire is Born 7:06

Standout Tracks:

"Fire Is Born," the closing track, is absolute carnage at its best. The highs and lows on this track are so divergent and experimental in nature it is sure to intrigue at first listen. Tempo changes all over the place and the ease at which Vimana switches on a dime is impressive.

Adult Beverage Pairing:

Denver’s Hercules Double IPA is a majestic 10% ABV loaded with hops across the board. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malty sweetness balances its aggressive hop profile.

Lasting Impression:

There is so much crap out there amongst the death metal and grindcore genres. Branded bands formed to purely to spew morbid thoughts and display cool album artistry all day long score between 1 - 4 on our dial. Vimana are refreshingly different with a tight complex sound. This EP is well worth your time and we feel will making lasting impressions at first listen.
