The self-titled debut album from Rivers of Gore celebrates experimental fuzz and jam-doom to its fullest. Former members of Vinnum Sabbathi, Bloodwitch, and Powertrip join forces from the Mexico City underground heavy music scene to bring you a pensive journey through very dark tunnels. While the production is average, we find the trio to do a nice job steadily spiraling into a rich doom world accentuated by psychedelic fuzz. Lead singer Rolo Riemer is impressive as he prods along with his rustic tone gradually building the emotion and strife. We appreciate the meandering fretwork that does not fall too far astray. After several rotations we found ourselves more engulfed in the texture of this album. Three tracks that really dive deep and contain a fair amount of complexity and thought.
Tracklist:
1. Abduction (The message) (14:23)
2. Glory and Punishment (18:26)
3. Shell Shock (14:24)
Standout Track:
"Glory and Punishment" takes us to the pinnacle where fuzz and doom hit some pretty interesting angles. The combination of the high-tone fretwork and Riemer’s escalating emotion really hits home on this one.
Adult Beverage Pairing:
When in Mexico do as the night owls do and request a ‘Vampiro’ a Mexican take on the classic hangover busting Bloody Mary. Made by combining a touch of lime juice with tequila, sangrita (a spicy tomato flavoured chaser) and grapefruit soda, it’s served in a salt-rimmed glass. Plenty of ice is necessary to give this delicious drink an extra-refreshing kick.
