Onoskelis (Good For Two)

Crank this to 8.4 of 11

Released: 2020

Genre: Stoner Rock

Sounds Like: Greenleaf, Soma, Devil Electric

Caution, this album contains a song with the phrase ‘Rock n’ Roll’ in it. While this is usually a red flag for us, we did not let it taint our deep dive into the ten tracks. We were pleased to find some very intelligent stoner song structure delivered by the Stockholm Sweden natives Onoskelis . Their sophomore full-length album Good For Two contains above average fretwork that resonates with crisp sludgy consistency.

Excellent range and melodies throughout the fretboard that core Scandinavian stoner fans will enjoy. Vocally the album contains a few mediocre outlays and various forced vocal fry at the tail end of sentences. These challenges are easily forgotten within the absorbing fretwork. For those curious, the name signifies a female demon with a beautiful form and shapeshifting capabilities. The ten tracks are quite diverse and the band takes some more risks and tangents on this album vs. their debut entitled ‘Tung Kniv

Track Listing:

1. Think Machine (5:08)

2. Hitch a Ride to Hell (4:48)

3. Axegang (3:55)

4. Beyond the Rift’t (4:24)

5. ….And all Else That is Cool (4:49)

6. Rock’n Roll in the Dark (7:14)

7. Mutate Hate (6:25)

8. Satan Is Slow (5:20)

9. Randy the Handyman (5:50)

10. Saturnal Surfer (7:14)

Standout Track:

"Saturn Surfer" delivers in a big way as the closer. This track has exceptional balance and movement. We hear the steadiness and dominant stature of Karma To Burn within the riffs and wonderful harmonized vocals on this one. What really catapults the track is the blissful percussion that inspires steady upward movement. Coming in a close second is "Satan is Slow" while one of the more tame tracks, this fucker sticks with you thanks to its very unique off-beat tone and wildly disturbing antagonism.

Adult Beverage Pairing:

Nothing better than a Swedish Polar Bear Cocktail to soothe your psyche while listening to ‘Good for Two’. You might very well engulf 3 or 4. This is about as simple as it gets…..grab 2 ounces of your favorite vodka, 1 ounce of blue curacau, and a can of sprite.

Final Thoughts:

Good for Two is a solid follow-up. Fans of Swedish stoner rock will certainly appreciate the steadiness of this album. Don’t get dejected by the ‘Rock’ n’ Roll’ track title. While perhaps one of the weaker tracks on the album, it still holds up and does not tarnish the overall flow of the album.
