LaGoon (Father of Death)

Crank this to 8.6 of 11

Released: 2020

Genre: Stoner Rock, Punk

Sounds Like: Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Indian Handcrafts, BUS

The latest offering from Oregon’s LaGoon is a melting pot of punk infused stoner riffs. Hailing from Oregon, the stoner skate metal trio first consisted of two members early in their career; Anthony Gaglia on guitar/vocals and Brady Maurer on drums. With the welcoming addition of Ignacio De Tommaso on bass (formerly of Luciferica), the band catapulted their heaviness with a deeper and richer sound.

Right from the start you can feel the difference in sound compared to past albums. When percussion and bass kick in, it hits you like a ton of bricks. As much as we celebrate their previous releases as a two-piece band, this addition is the right move. The bass work really solidifies the heaviness and brings them to a whole new level. Just check out the track “Resuscitation,” it really showcases their musicianship as a trio. The vocal work of Anthony Gaglia is in typical LaGoon fashion, his offbeat, unusual tone really separates the band from others within the genre; think Salem’s Pot meet BUS.

LaGoon has won us over with this release, Father of Death has so much heavy groove, trippy stoned riffs and some punk attitude. It’s easily one of the more unique heavy albums you will hear this summer.

1. Father of Death 04:56

2. Resuscitation 06:53

3. Bloodied Mouth 03:38

4. Broken Oath 04:16

5. Stab & Cut 06:15

Standout Track(s):

Tough call, but we go with the opening track “Father of Death”. If your new to LaGoon, this will instantly grab a hold of you. For long time fans, this track probably wowed their fanbase with their new rich sound.

Adult Beverage Pairing

We recommend Monument by Missouri based Crane Brewing. This 6.5% ABV Sour Berliner Weisse has a refreshing aroma of lemon and passionfruit. It has some typical bite like most sours do, but one you get past the initial tartness, it’s pure heavan.
