Kaleidobolt (Bitter)

Crank this to 8.9 of 11

Released: 2019

Genre: Stoner Rock, Progressive Rock

Sounds Like: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Elder, Radio Moscow

The minute we played track one off Kaleidobolt’s latest album, we felt there was a more amped up and energetic vibe. Coming off their two previous releases, Bitters hows the band expanding upon their heavy psychedelics and it pays off in a big way. With roots stemmed in stoner psych rock, the threesome from Finland have taken their game to new heights, it’s easily their most ambitious work yet.

Kaleidobolt have injected some loose, prog-styled jamming into the mix and it’s a brilliant move. The music is so fucking layered and loud it's ridiculous, making for a slightly distorted production. This distortion benefits the album as it has a live-in-the-studio feel. Bitteris a wild ride of heavy rock as it displays influences from progressive rock icons Yes or King Crimson and even newer exploratory heaviness of King Gizzard. Check out the track “I Am The Seer,” this song has so much going for it, there are flashes of “Heart of the Sunrise” nestled in here, just a bit heavier and thicker. Singer and guitarist Sampo Kaarianen is a maniac on this album, with his rough vocals and insane guitar licks, it's his finest performance and we're not sure how he pulls this off live. The bass and drumming follow perfectly and round out the psychedelic madness.

Standout Track(s)

”I Am The Seer” is one of the standouts, as we stated earlier we hear a bit of classic Yes influence in here. "Deadpan Blues" has some sick stoner rhythms that get you pumped up and "Hydra" is a psychedelic wonder with its tripped out jamming.

Adult Beverage Pairing

Let's go with a brew native to Kaleidobolt and enjoy some Deep Double Stoned from CoolHead Brew in Finland. This Fruited Imperial Berliner Weisse has a modest 6%ABV and tastes of peach and apricots. A wildly flavorful brew to compliment Bitter.
