Firelink (The Inveterate Fire)
Crank this to 8.6 of 11
Released: 2019
Genre: Black Metal
Sounds Like: Immortal, Darkthrone

We do not often review bands that have been inspired by video games. That being said, the intriguing album art sucked us into previewing the duo from Atlanta, Georgia known as Firelink. The Dark Souls trilogy fanatics have released their debut album entitled The Inveterate Fire. The five tracks cover a surprisingly diverse landscape ebbing between majestic melodies, brooding percussion and guttural growls. The backbone of black metal is supported by an intriguing mix of progressive metal riffs.
Track Listing:
1. Vessel of the Primordial Serpent (4:35)
2. Kindled (10:02)
3. Manus (8:55)
4. Beckoning Sun (9:22)
5. The First Sin (10:04)
Standout Track:
"The First Sin" is a wild ride featuring some impressive contrast and high tone post-rock like guitar licks. The vocals breakout a bit into deeper octaves and the battle culminates with impressive fury.
Adult Beverage Pairing:
Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Double IPA — Straight out of historic downtown LaGrange, Wild Leap Brewing has been making a mark on the Georgia beer scene. The third edition of its Alpha Abstraction series, Volume 3 is a juicy, double dry-hopped IPA with Mosaic. At 8 percent alcohol, it’s big but not bitter.

Final Thoughts:
No its not folk metal as you would envision from the album cover, but the duo impresses on their debut with some pretty elaborate black metal that takes a few interesting tangents into progressive and post rock territory. Give this one a gander and diversify your library of heavy.
