Cobra Spell (Love Venom)

Turn this to 6.1 of 11

Released: 2020

Genre: Heavy Metal

Sounds Like: Slaughter, Kix

80s hair metal is alive and well in The Netherlands. Love Venom by Cobra Spell is a throwback 80s glam metal record that wiggled its way into our rotation. It's nostalgic and rocks at the same time. This genre is very tough to pull off today without sounding very cheesy or blatantly ripping off bands from this era. Now, lets be clear, its not a very original take on hair metal, but they do a nice job of transporting us back to this time.

What saves this album is there are only four tracks, so it doesn't overstay it's welcome. An 11 track album could have been overkill, but it's not the case here. Lead singer Alexx Panza has the perfect set of pipes for 80s glam rock. He pulls you into their world of hair and metal. The lyrics are in typical hair metal fashion, so don't look into them too much. Overall, Love Venom is a good modern throwback to an era of metal that still holds true.

Track Listing:

1. Come on Tonight 04:21

2. Poison Bite 04:39

3. Love Venom 04:44

4. Shake Me 03:18

Standout Track(s):

"Come on Tonight" has it all; tasty licks, good rhythm and operatic vocals.

Adult Beverage Pairing:

Let’s go with Hop Head IPA from Ireland-based Porterhouse Brewing. This 4.8% IPA will not wow you, but has a classic and enjoyable hoppy flavor.
