Cable's The Failed Convict, can be considered a concept album about an escaped convict named Jim; who heads to the West Coast in hopes of freedom. There are many different styles to their sound that come together here, from a sludge crawl at times to a dirty blues, creating the mood for this story. "Jim’s Dream" sets the tone; as the main character is introduced here. His journey westward is full of twists and turns, which is played throughout the rest of the album. Pete Farris’s heavy vocals are easy to follow, which is important if you want to follow the characters journey. Cable never stray away from the mid-tempo sound for most of the album. Track 4 "Failure Comin’ Down" is only 1:20 minutes, but the groove and background vocals just suck you in and you want more, as it jumps right into "Gulf of Texaco", where you feel the aggression of the character. Cables’ ability to move between guitar driven anthems to bass heavy arrangements is flawless and works. The Failed Convict is lyrically and musically a fantastic album as it can fit any mood. Whether you feel like some stoner rock, bluesy metal or some sludge, this is for you. Let’s hope they stick around and write a part two. Standout Tracks: Golf of Texaco, Sleep Produces Monsters
