Sludge duo Brusque have delivered a very dark and mesmerizing album in What’s Hidden Devours. Hailing from Paris, France the two-piece throw down some dirty sludge with tons of controlled distortion. The album at times has a unique industrial feel and emanates feelings of despair and anger, making for a great loner album.
The various back up vocals provided by guest musicians throughout the album inject great variety and add to the aura that is Brusque. The bottom line is if you want a different angle to your sludge, this is for you. They provide some unique sounds and creativity to the genre.
Tracklist: 1. Hell 06:39 2. Us 08:08 3. Red State 03:14 4. Playrole 06:06 5. Wild 08:32
Standout Track(s) The different styles of vocals on “Playrole” make this one a standout as they mix it up with some punk with desperation. The last half of the song just keeps building and building up to a massive wall of sonic distortion. The last cut “Wall” is a mammoth tune that bursts with Crowbar-like riffage and strong vocal work.
Adult Beverage Pairing
Try and grab some Sour Monkey by Pennsylvania-based Victory Brewing. This one-of-a-kind sour American Wild Ale has such unique flavors of tart fruits. The whopping 9.5% ABV is goes unnoticed, which can be dangerous, but none the less pairs well with Whats Hidden Devours.
