BoneHawk (Iron Mountain)

Crank this to 8.8 of 11

Released: 2020

Genre: Stoner Rock

Sounds Like: Freedom Hawk, Ape Machine, The Heavy Eyes

Hailing from Kalamazoo, Michigan, BoneHawk deliver some fresh and uplifting stoner rock to help lift our spirits during these crazy f'ed up times. The foursome have tightened and polished their sound from 2014's Albino Rhino. This previous release had a more raw stoner vibe in vein of early Black Keys. Iron Mountain shows the band expanding upon their fuzz and bringing in a more fluent stoner feel. Vocalist and guitarist Matt Helt shines on this album as he brings fourth a clean and triumphant feel to the music. These songs flow brilliantly and feel effortless as they just stick with you; making for the perfect road trip album.

Standout Track(s):

Impossible task, but we may go with "Fire Lake" with it's infectious chorus and backing vocals and the inspiring "Iron Mountain will wrap you up in their soaring fuzz bliss. Plus, we cannot forget "Strange Magic," this tune took a few plays to really stick with us. The chorus is repeated often, but becomes buried in your mind.

Adult Beverage Pairing:

Grab some Galaxy Juice Quest by Tin Barn Brewing in Sugar Loaf, NY. The Orange County, NY based brewery fairly new and has hit the ground running. This 9.2% triple New England IPA is loaded with tastes of pineapple, tangerine and oranges, yet it's not overwhelming to the senses and is rather smooth. A perfect companion to Iron Mountain.
