Bog Wizard

Bog Wizard have returned! Hailing from Michigan, the doom trio bring forth a more polished and ambitious heavy album. Once a two-piece band, the addition of Colby Lowman on bass has elevated their swampy doom sound. From the Mire is a more patient album compared to their previous release Campaign. They seem to have taken a step back to let the music breath and the swampy sludge just ooze. The quiet moments are a welcome touch and feel just as powerful as the heavy moments. For us, it's the contrast between heavy and soft structures that can make or break some doom albums.

The vocals of Ben and Harlen are in similar fashion to their first release, yet they don't feel as forced and they compliment each other. They possess some sort of old school doom feel at timers. The lyrics are all about fantasy and D&D themes which is fitting for Bog Wizard. The production sounds very independent and raw which is a nice feel for Bog Wizard. The album on a whole is more complex and entertaining, From the Mire is the album Bog Wizard needed to release.

Standout Track(s)

"Tarrasque" has it all; its sludgy and trippy with an old school doom heaviness aura.

Adult Beverage Pairing

Ghost In The Machine by Parish Brewing in Louisiana. This 5.4% Double Dry Hopped IPA has a hat orange aroma with a bit of Pina and citrus flavors. A great pairing with Bog Wizard.
