Pink Cigs (Pink Cigs)

Crank this to 8.5 of 11

Released: 2020

Genre: Stoner rock, Metal

Sounds Like: Horisont, Corrosion of Conformity, Blue Cheer

Hailing from Sheffield, UK the Pink Cigs bust out with their debut full length album of 70’s inspired psychedelic heaviness. The foursome throw down ten tracks of heavy groovin’ psych rock. What we love about this album is the bands’ ability to throw in some 90’s metal action into the mix, we hear some Deliverance era Corrosion of Conformity. Singer/guitarist Cris reminds us of Pepper Keenan from 1994 era C.O.C., and every once in a while we feel the urge to hear the lyrics “help me Jesus, help me clean my wounds…” The album has a real nice raw sound as these guys are all about bringing the live feel into your living room. Now, the album may not be the most original blues rock album we have heard, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a highly entertaining with no frills or bullshit, it’s pure energetic psych rock… meant to be played live.

Standout Track(s)

Perhaps we’ll go with the infectious stoned groove of “Nightstalker” for starters. This track will easily hook it’s bluesy psych tentacles into you. “Dirty Trick” is a close second.

Adult Beverage Pairing

Let’s go with a brew that has a bit of punch. Sophistry 5 from Minnesota based Lupulin Brewing. This 7.5% ABV IPA has a slight fruit taste with some bitterness. A swell companion to Pink Cigs.

Final Thoughts

Pink Cigs is one hell of an energetic album loaded with raw and infectious blues rock. The addition of 90s metal riffs is the icing on the cake and pulls them apart from their peers; the Graveyards and Kadavars of the world. Get this album today, it will inject some life into your heavy rotation.
