The punk and hardcore scene is thriving and just received the welcomed swift kick to the face with the third release by The Good The Bad and The Zugly. These four gents from Oslo, Norway have brought back the fun and no bullshit approach to the scene, its pure punk and hardcore bliss. There is definitely a throwback early 90s hardcore and punk feel to this album, which was the best era for these genres in our opinion. The vocals are pure and fitting for the punkish attitude of the album. Every once in a while we hear glimpses of old school Mike Muir, makes us want to hear some “War Inside My Head”.

Another positive draw to the album is they don’t throw heavy social issues in your face, not that they don’t touch societal matters, they keep things light-hearted. Often punk albums can get too political, which is a turn off. The backing vocals are used to perfection and timed very well … you’ll have the track “Ripe for the Grave” stuck in your head.

Standout Track(s)
Right off the bat you’ll know if this is for you as the first track “H-Bomb” sets the tone. The released single “Vig Bak Meg Satan” is catchy as all hell which leads right into the steadfast “I Lied About Being A Hardcore Man,” great back-to-back tunes. “International Asshole” is a great song as a well, good rhythm injected into this one. We can keep going, just pick this one up, the whole album is a blast.

Alcohol Pairing
This album deserves something strong and bold. Grab yourself some Boom Sauce by Boston’s very own Lord Hobo Brewing. This 8% ABV New England style IPA will definitely do the trick.

Lasting Impression
The Good The Bad and The Zugly are the real deal when it comes to hardcore and punk. It’s refreshing to hear an album of this nature give off that “not taking itself serious” attitude ... it’s brilliant song writing. We’ve been a bit bored with this genre lately, especially when it comes to new acts. These guys aren’t new to the scene, but have reignited our love for the genre. - 3/27/2018
