Six glorious jams weighing in at 1 hour and 9 minutes, what more can you ask for. The gurus of psychedelic, stoner instrumental rock are back with yet another fantastic, mind-altering album with Stoned Gold. Robbi Robb and company always seem to outdo themselves on new releases. This album pretty much solidifies the band as our go-to when we need that instrumental psych rock fix. Since the release of previous albums such as Boi (2013), Ear Dog (2014), Incredible Good Fortune (2014) and Stones of a Feather (2016) we have been converted into 3rd Ear Experience dead heads, yet we have never witnessed their mastery live.

What impresses us the most about Stoned Gold is that these tracks are unedited free form jams taken from a few rehearsal sessions, it’s amazing the chemistry these musicians have. The album crosses into so many rock territories; just check out “I Am Not Robot,” this jam shows the heavier side of 3rd Ear Experience. The song is a monstrous, doom-laden psychedelic space rock affair. “No Walls, No Wars” introduces a space tribal vibe with vocal nuances scattered throughout, great diversity that 3rd Ear is known for. Stoned Gold like all other 3rd Ear Experience albums, cannot be previewed in one sitting, there is just too much wondrous psychedelic jams to get lost in, take our word for it.

Risk of Subwoofer Damage – 9.7 of 11
Very high, this album displays bottomless bass work and tremendous percussion, keep turning this one up slowly.

Song Structure – 9.7 of 11
For an album with unedited jams sessions, this is amazing.

Fretwork Prowess – 9.8 of 11
The guitars are played intensely with a hypnotic psychedelic space tone.

Overall Album Flow – 9.3 of 11
All the tracks weave beautifully between one another, it’s very hard not to listen to this one in its entirety.

Contrast – 9.3 of 11
3rd Ear are geniuses at throwing a ton of diversity within their music without straying too far from their formula.

Album Cover Aesthetics – 9.7 of 11
The cover art is spot on, intriguing and looks great on your playlist.

Production Value – 10 of 11
Excellent, again these jams are unedited.

Standout Track(s)
None. The whole album fucking rocks.

Alcohol Pairing
Enjoy some Space Cake Double IPA by Clown Shoes Brewery. This 9% ABV is the perfect companion to Stoned Gold. This deep orange IPA has an aroma of ripe fruit, citrus and berries. The flavor continues to evolve as the beer warms, with hints of grapefruit, pine, honey, mango, berries, and some spice, but very smooth. Very enjoyable, and quite well balanced. The label is awesome as well.

Lasting Impression
Like all other 3rd Ear albums, there is always something new to be heard. The band has always showed the passion for exploration and this one is no exception.
