Creeping straight out of Arkansas comes Deadbird, bringing forth Twilight Ritual, a heavy, slow churning behemoth. They tend to take their time as the songs range from 6 to 9 minutes and once they find a rhythm, they beat it to death. Now it’s not all gloom and doom here, there are elements of good stoner rock on this album, you just have to stick around long enough to discover them.

The vocals are solid for this kind of music; three of the four band members just belt out insanity as well as provide soft undertones. When they sing in harmony, it’s a welcome addition to the family and this is what keeps the album afloat. There are also good acoustics scattered throughout as well, which helps break-up the sludge that’s being produced here. It’s a great album to put on in the dead of winter, it fits the season well.

Twilight Ritual can be a long and daunting album if you don’t give it a chance, it cannot be previewed with a couple listens, in fact, it took us quite a few listens to give you a fair review. We’re glad we did because we can now appreciate the musicianship here.
